Coronavirus Quarantine

Day 11

It was a scorcher today. A quintessential March Friday.

I fuel up the tank with a vegetarian breakfast down at a cafe near the beach with my girlfriend, and get back in time to be hit with a wall of messages regarding one thing or another.

A busy morning rolled into a busy late morning. A company-wide email tells us what we all suspected: we’re to keep working from home for the foreseeable future.

Heading back down to the beach at lunchtime for a salt water immersion makes the decision much easier to digest.

Back sweat abounds as the afternoon sets in and the fan I’ve got pointed at me seems to do absolutely nothing. Those ten push-ups every thirty-minutes don’t seem like such a good idea now.

I sing Foo Fighters loudly and badly as I wrap up the day.

Footy’s on tonight. Watching them play to an empty stadium is incredibly strange, but the chat on field is remarkable to hear. You sometimes catch snatches of it when you go to a game, but hearing thirty-six men on field screaming at each other about where they are, they’re under pressure, they want the ball is very pure.

As an aside, my initial fortnight (and a day) of working from home is over, and is being extending indefinitely. I’m going to can this series for the time being, and get back to some more short stories and satirical pieces. Cheers for reading any/all of these. You’re the reason I practise good hygiene.

Matt Querzoli wrote this. He’s working from home for the next fortnight because it’s a small world and Wuhan is a part of that world.
